The calibrated Mitutoyo 500-474CAL Absolute Solar Digimatic digital calliper is for measuring inside and outside diameter, depth, and step of items. This calliper has a measurement range of 0 to 6' (0 to 150mm), resolution of 0.0005' (0.01mm), and an accuracy of + or - 0.001'. The LCD screen displays in inches and metric units. This unit has a thumb roller and Absolute electrostatic capacitance-type linear encoder for accurate measurements and a blade depth bar for measuring narrow grooves and recesses. It is powered by a solar cell that can be used continuously above 60 lux ambient illumination. Mitutoyo calibrated tools include a Certificate of Calibration that provides evidence that the tool has been calibrated and is within allowable error specifications. Mitutoyo calibrated tools are certified by Mitutoyo's American Association for Laboratory Accreditation-accredited calibration laboratory (A2LA Certificate #750-01) to the International Organisation for Standardisation/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) 17025 International Standard for testing and calibration laboratories. Additional functions offered by this calliper include absolute measurement, origin set, data hold, and computing error alert. This unit comes with a solar cell and a fitted, plastic case. Digital callipers are measuring instruments commonly used for inspection in manufacturing to provide the precise measurements of an object. A pair of jaws attached to a long beam with a marked scale is used to take inside, outside, and step measurements. An additional depth probe slides along the beam to take depth measurements. One jaw is fixed to the end of the scale, while the other jaw slides along it with gearless precision to take measurements. The reading is electronically generated and displayed on a digital, high-resolution screen as a single value. Digital callipers can take differential measurements that are used to determine the difference in measurements between two objects, by zeroing the display at any point along the scale. Some digital callipers can switch between standard and metric units, and some can output readings to a computer or printer for recording measurements. Calliper gauges are used in production settings where specific diametrical or thickness measurements must be repeated frequently with precision and accuracy. Compared to dial callipers, digital callipers provide measurements that are faster, easier, and more error-free, but they are more fragile mechanically and electronically, and do not resist coolant well. Vernier callipers are more durable than digital callipers because they do not have internal moving parts, but they can be more difficult to read. Digital callipers are commonly used in fields such as metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, carpentry, and medicine. Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and related systems. The company, founded in Tokyo in 1934, formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963 with headquarters in Aurora, IL.
