The squirrel-proof bird feeder attracts a wide variety of clinging and perching birds including the American Gold Finch, the Chickadee, the Indigo Bunting, and the Purple Finch. Squirrel-Proof / Chew-Proof
Openings in the wire shroud align with seed ports and provide birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the seed ports. All squirrels and many large birds are blocked from accessing the food, but are not harmed in any way.
The Closing Mechanism
The spring mechanism is calibrated at the factory to close at 4 ounces (115 g). The smaller red squirrels, as well as the larger gray squirrels, are shut out at this setting.
Negative Grip Tube
The bird feeder features a negative grip tube that prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs and hanging alongside the feeder, defeating the closing mechanism.
Seed-Level Indicator
The bottom of the yellow center post cap marks the maximum seed level. Filling past this mark will impede the shroud from closing. Do not fill past this mark.
Patented Seed Tube Ventilation System
Transparent seed tubes are like greenhouses; they trap solar energy. Traditional seed tube cover designs block the escape of heated air. The patented Seed Tube Ventilation System in the Squirrel Buster Finch permits humidity and warm air to escape through vents at the top of the feeder. The escaping air is replaced by fresh air entering through the seed ports. The result: seed remains fresher and attracts more birds.
